Leon Winkel (he/they) explores the translation of nature as a consoling source of energy through abstract paintings.
Addressing the ongoing loss of natural environments as a sphere of resonance (Rosa, 2019), Leon seeks to develop a distinct formal language by layering mainly graphite, gouache and plaster on paper. His practice is informed by working as a graphic design freelance (diploma in Integrated Design, 2009, University of the Arts Bremen) and his background as vocalist in DIY metal bands. Performances or written lyrics accompany exhibitions.
